About the Fleet Operations Manager Role

Based in Sakania, Ndola, this full-time position requires a proactive leader to manage vehicle dispatch, route planning, and cross-border transportation primarily between Zambia and mining sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The successful candidate will ensure efficient, safe, and timely delivery of cargo while maintaining operational excellence across all fleet activities.

Key Responsibilities of the Fleet Operations Manager Vehicle Dispatching & Route Management: Lead fleet dispatch and route planning within Zambia and cross-border operations, establishing emergency response protocols for incidents such as vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or checkpoint detentions.

Fuel Management: Control fuel issuance, regularly audit refueling data to prevent fuel theft and unauthorized resale, safeguarding core fleet costs. Cost Control: Oversee expenses including tolls and statutory charges with thorough documentation; collaborate with loading and unloading sites to optimize cargo handling and minimize delays.

Policy Compliance & Asset Management: Manage renewal of transport permits and coordinate accident claim processes to maximize insurance recoveries. Team Leadership: Develop and implement management rules, safety training, and performance-based compensation for drivers; work closely with HR on recruitment, onboarding, disciplinary actions, and labor dispute resolution.

Vehicle Maintenance & Logistics Support: Partner with the in-house workshop to schedule preventive maintenance for heavy-duty trucks and review repair reports to prevent discrepancies and loss of parts.

Qualifications and Experience

• Required for Fleet Operations Manager Jobs in Ndola Bachelor’s degree or higher in Transport & Logistics Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of three years’ practical experience in cross-border fleet management or logistics/transportation.
• Strong mechanical knowledge of mainstream heavy-duty trucks such as Sinotruk Howo, Shacman, and FAW.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word, with the ability to generate detailed operational reports and perform data analysis independently.
• Membership in the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT) is mandatory.
• Residency in Ndola or willingness to relocate.
• Additional Preferences In-depth familiarity with the route from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Zambia, including toll stations, rest stops, inspection points, and distances.
• Exceptional responsibility, attention to detail, and strong leadership and execution skills.
• Knowledge of local traffic laws, police procedures, and insurance claim protocols.
• Ability to handle stress effectively and manage crises with integrity and sound judgment.
